Boise Triathlon Development Program:  Training Clinic #1

   Shu's Fittrek Nordic Walking Clinic

Our Clinics are held on designated Saturdays for a minimum of 3 participants, maximum 15. Other days and times and private one-on-one and small groups are welcome to book a Clinic. Join us Thursdays @ 5:30pm with your poles for our coordinated Run/Walk.

Details:  Fittrek Nordic Walking Basics for Beginners- prepares the new Fittreker with safe and proper form and technique for Endurance Nordic walking on most level surfaces.  These sessions are for individuals experiencing no walking disabilities of stability or balance and who can walk at a moderate pace consecutively for whole session.  

Details:  Shu's 3 Hour Basics Nordic Walking Clinic- prepares the new pole walker with safe and proper form and technique for Cardio Endurance & Fitness and Muscular Endurance Nordic walking on most level surfaces and hills. This clinic is for healthy individuals who can walk at a moderate pace consecutively for whole session. 

  ** If you need the poles for stability, balance and mobility or unloading of lower body joints due to a health/physical condition, please contact Instructor for private sessions, as she is experienced and can alter pole height, tip placement and technique for most individuals.
** Clinics are also available for hikers, backpackers, long-endurance walkers. All sessions are available for private instruction or small group.

Reach for a healthier you at the 12th annual REACH Health Fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Jordan Ballroom in the Boise State Student Union Building. Come for health information from a variety of vendors, health screenings, giveaways and motivational speaker and Boise State football linebacker coach Viliami Tuivai. The health fair is free and open to the public.  

Door prizes will be given away including signed Boise State sports equipment, Boise Burn and Idaho Steelhead tickets and T-shirts.  

Free parking is available in the parking garage at the corner of University and Lincoln.

To make your triathlon (or endurance sport) season the best yet, you’ll need to do some good planning.  There are many tips & tricks for creating an efficient & effective training season.  Give yourself a head start with our 4-part “Triathlon 101” Seminar Series.  All seminars listed below are free & go from 6:30-7:30 p.m. - simply show up for some great info on various topics!

Base Training for Triathlon

Base training is perhaps the most important part of endurance sport training.  Though it often seems simple - just put in long miles - there really is more to it.  We’ll discuss the key components of a great Base training program as well as how to avoid injury during this critical training phase.  Seminar runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

TEAM APEX RUNNING CLUB MEET AND GREET!

We are not a "running group"...we are a TEAM! Come join TEAM APEX and reap the benefits of running with others, where T.ogether E.veryone A.chieves M.ore! We are a fun-loving group dedicated to the sport of running. We welcome and encourage ALL levels (beginner to elite) to participate in TEAM APEX training and racing...year around!  Training teams are beginning soon for spring and fall marathons, Robie Creek, and year-round 5k/10ks.

Idaho Premier Running Technique Clinic

ASTYM Seminar

Topic: ASTYM stands for Advanced Soft Tissue Mobilization. ASTYM is a very effective technique that can be used as a modality, during physical therapy treatment. ASTYM allows for  a “second-chance” for the body to recover scarred or dysfunctional tissue. This seminar will be conducted by Marcie McGuinness, the athletic trainer for Therapeutic Associates on Parkcenter. Marcie will be able to provide information on the ASTYM system, as well as demonstration.

Topic:   While chronic pelvic pain is becoming more and more common, most people have difficulty discussing it, diagnosing it, and finding  a cure.  The Physical Therapists at Therapeutic Associates are musculoskeletal experts who can help.  The Physical Therapy (PT) approach evaluates why the body has created an imbalance of chronic tightening and corrects it, develops methods to relax and release these overused muscles, and provides patient education focused on finding relief from the symptoms and maintaining a pain-free lifestyle.  Our end goal is to provide you with symptom relief and empower you with the knowledge and tools to maintain good health.
Instructor:  Derek Stiegemeier, DPTDerek received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Montana in Missoula and his B.S. in Exercise Science from Rocky Mountain College in Billings Montana.  He is certified in Augmented Soft Tissue Mobilization (The ASTYM™ System).  Derek will be working towards becoming a board certified orthopedic specialist (OCS), and gaining multiple levels of certification through the North American Institute of Manual Therapy (NAOIMT).
**Derek’s clinical emphasis is on orthopedics, with focus on biomechanical analysis of the upper and lower extremities. He has experience with proper equipment setup, manual therapy, and personalized exercise prescription.   In addition to orthopedics Derek also focuses on Men’s health with experience in both pelvic pain and low back treatment.

Fitness Tracking Innovations for Runners and Triathletes

Thursday Night Run/Walk

Every Thursday night we coordinate a 3, 4, and 5 mile Run/Walk.
All abilities are welcome! We meet regardless of rain, snow, sleet or hail. It takes place year round and is a great way to meet new running or walking buddies.

The Run/Walk starts at 5:30 p.m. sharp.
First timers should come a few minutes early to sign up.
